Lucia Peel, the chairperson of the Roanoke River Partners will talk about the Roanoke River Partners (RRP). They have developed and maintain the Roanoke River Paddle Trail, which currently has thirteen platforms available for down east adventurers. The platforms have been built on Weyerhauser land, the Nature Conservancy land and private property; one landowner was quoted as saying that the campsite land he leases to the RRP yields more income per acre than leasing land for agriculture! The Roanoke River is a wonderful asset for eastern North Carolina. It passes through many small historic towns that offer a wide variety of quaint small town experiences; at the north end of the river, there are over six miles of class two and three whitewater rapids Lucia Peel was graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in political science and got her law degree at Wake Forest University. She practiced law until she finally realized that a “bad day in flip flops beats a good day in high heels”. She returned to eastern North Carolina in 2003 to open a B&B and got involved with RRP. She currently runs the Haughton Hall Bed and Breakfast in Williamston, NC, along with being acting Executive Director of the Roanoke River Partners. Please join us September 13, 2010 at 7:00 pm.
Monthly meetings are held at the Business Networking Center (next to the Dairy Queen) in Cary and are open to the public. Please note that beer and wine are available for purchase at the BNC and you can bring your dinner, if you like! 649 Walnut Street Cary, NC 27511 919.342.5251 Lat/long 35.77581673137403, -78.76765966415405
August Meeting Highlights
Mary Hall and David Cole bought touring kayaks for their 25th wedding anniversary in 2002 and have been paddling around the state together ever since. For the August CKC meeting they shared pictures and stories of their 20+ favorite places to paddle and were gracious to let us publish slides and photos to some very special places to paddle in the NC area. If you love to paddle in beautiful places, this presentation is a must see. You may download their presentation by the following links.
